“16-Day Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence” Conducted in NLRP-II Locations  

As part of the 16-Day Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence, several awareness and capacity-building activities were carried out in NLRP-II project locations. The aim of these activities was to raise awareness on gender-based violence, strengthen community level grievance handling mechanisms, and empower cooperative members and local communities to prevent and respond to incidents effectively. 

A one-day orientation program on the protection and grievance handling system was completed for the board of directors, sub-committees, and share members of active small farmers’ agricultural cooperatives in Devchuli. The program was organized by Divya Jyoti Agricultural Cooperative, Devchuli–1, Keureni and facilitated by the Area Police Office, under the slogan: “Let’s make proper use of technology: Let’s end gender-based violence!” 

Additionally, Caritas Nepal and the Women’s Empowerment Multipurpose Cooperative organized an awareness campaign and competitive sports programs to promote community engagement. During the program, the Branch Chief for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens of Panchpuri Municipality provided information on gender-based violence and its prevention. 

Furthermore, on 10 December 2025, a 16-Day Gender Violence Program was conducted at Ghusel, jointly organized by Caritas Nepal, Bagmati Rural Municipality, and Tikabhairab Police Station, reinforcing awareness and preventive measures against gender-based violence.  

In consultation with Shree Janachetana Secondary School, Mangalpur–10, Rajapur Municipality, the school’s Child Club took an important initiative on 3 December 2025 to reduce and prevent child marriage both inside and outside the school. School units and the Child Club committed to strictly following this initiative, and students pledged not to engage in child marriage before achieving personal goals and to abide by Nepal’s laws against child marriage. Participants included students from classes 6 to 12, schoolteachers, SMC members, and PTA members, all of whom signed a commitment letter in support of the initiative.

Training on Oyster Mushroom Cultivation in Devchuli, Nawalparasi 

The training was completed for members of the Shanti Gaira Home Garden Farmers Group and the Indreni Home Garden Farmers Group in Devchuli Municipality–4, Nawalparasi District. A total of 50 participants took part in the training, including 4 men and 46 women. Among them only 2-4 participants were known to mushroom cultivation before the event. The training emphasized practical, hands-on learning, with a demonstration plot/tunnel established for mushroom cultivation in Devchuli–4 for the Shanti Gaira and Indreni home garden groups. Participants gained skills in mushroom shed house (tunnel) preparation, substrate management, hygiene practices during cultivation, spawning, and basic care and harvesting techniques, enabling them to initiate household level mushroom production to improve nutrition and generate additional income. 

Three-Day Homestead Gardening Training Completed in Surkhet  

A three-day homesead gardening training was completed for members of the Tikhakuna Home Garden Farmers Group and the Pragatishil Home Garden Farmers Group in Surkhet. A total of 54 participants attended the training, including 5 men and 49 women. The training focused on improved home gardening techniques, including seasonal vegetable selection, nursery management, organic manure preparation, integrated pest management (IPM), safe use of pesticides, and record-keeping practices. Practical sessions were also conducted to strengthen participants’ hands-on skills. The training aimed to enhance household nutrition, food security, and income opportunities, particularly for women farmers.

Capacity-Building Trainings Strengthen Technical Skills of Farmers in Jhapa and Lalitpur 

A four-day Initial Technical Training, held from 31 December 2025 to 3 January 2026, was conducted to strengthen basic technical capacity at the farmer group level. The training was funded by Kankai Municipality and organized by Caritas Nepal, with the objective of developing local technical resource persons capable of addressing initial and minor field-level farming problems. This approach helps reduce farmers’ reliance on municipal offices or external technical experts. A total of 36 participants took part in the training, including 8 men and 28 women. An exposure visit to different farms was organized on the final day to enhance practical learning. In addition, a technical skill training on vegetable production was conducted from 2 to 3 December 2025 in Bagmati Rural Municipality, 2 Malta, Lalitpur. Participants included members from enterprise groups, homestead groups, IPM FFS, and cooperative staff, with a total of 17 participants. The training focused on strengthening technical knowledge and practical skills in vegetable cultivation to support increased productivity and improved farm management.

Preparations Underway for First Goat Management FFS in Devchuli 

Preparations for the first trial Farmer Field School (FFS) on goat management have been initiated in Devchuli Municipality–1, Nawalparasi. The goat shed is being readied for both the main and minor trial activities. A total of 32 goat farmers is participating, representing the Manakamana Laghu Udhyam Bakhra Palan Krishak Samuha and the Didibahini Laghu Udhyam Bakhra Palan Krishak Samuha. The FFS, aims to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and practical skills in improved goat husbandry, housing, feeding, and health management through participatory learning. The training will be facilitated by Caritas Nepal (CN), with special sessions conducted by officials from the Livestock Development Department to provide additional technical guidance. The training is set to begin in the first week of January and will run for 18 months, providing continuous support and learning opportunities for participating farme

Cooperative Management and Skill Development Training conducted for cooperative leaders in Rong Municipality, Illam 

A two-day cooperative management and skill development training was concluded at the Rong Rural Municipality Hall from 29–30 December 2025. A total of 28 participants attended the training. The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of cooperative managers and committee leaders to effectively manage annual cooperative plans and provide PEARLS monitoring updates to all cooperative representatives in the municipality, promoting better cooperative governance and accountability.

Ward-Level Social Protection and GEDSI Review Workshops Conducted in Rajapur Municipality 

Social Protection and Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Review Workshops were conducted at the ward level in Ward No. 6 and Ward No. 10 of Rajapur Municipality.The workshops brought together a wide range of participants, including the Deputy Mayor of Rajapur Municipality, Ward Chairpersons and members, representatives from the police station, Caritas Nepal staff, representatives from local cooperatives (Aguwa Agriculture Cooperative Ltd in Ward No. 6 and Bijayata Women Development Multipurpose Cooperative Ltd in Ward No. 10), community leaders, Badghars, Child Club members, ward-level women’s network members, stakeholders, and local community members. A total of 126 participants attended the Ward No. 6 workshop, while 166 participants attended the Ward No. 10 workshop. 

Both workshops were facilitated by Section Head of the Women and Child Development Section of Rajapur Municipality. Orientation sessions on Social Protection and GEDSI were delivered by the Deputy Mayor, Caritas Nepal DPC, and the APF/In-Charge of the Rajapur Municipality Police Station, equipping community members with knowledge on women’s, PwD rights, grievance mechanisms, and inclusive practices. 

Following the orientation sessions, street dramas were performed by the Youth Networks of Ward No. 6 and Ward No. 10. The performances highlighted issues such as gender discrimination, child marriage, domestic violence, inequality, and abuse, engaging the community in an interactive and impactful way. 

The programs were chaired by the respective Ward Chairpersons, with the Deputy Mayor of Rajapur Municipality serving as chief guest for both events, reinforcing the municipality’s commitment to promoting gender equality, social protection, and community awareness.

Training on Legal Rights and Referral Support for Gender-Based Violence Conducted in Rajapur Municipality 

A one-day training on Legal Rights and Referral Support Processes related to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) was conducted at Bijayata Women Development Multipurpose Cooperative Ltd., Ward No. 10, Rajapur Municipality, on 4 December 2025.The training was facilitated expert advocate and co-facilitated by the DPC and PO of Caritas Nepal. A total of 25 participants attended, including 2 men and 23 women. The training focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of GBV and support mechanisms. Key highlights included: 

  • Orientation on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) for community members 
  • Types of gender-based violence 
  • Overview of registered GBV cases 
  • Current legal practices and actions against GBV 
  • Referral support processes and steps to refer cases 
  • Information on where survivors can seek support and legal treatment 

The training aimed to empower community members with knowledge of legal rights and referral pathways, ensuring timely and effective support for GBV survivors.

Meeting of Judicial Committee and Mediation Center Conducted in Rajapur Municipality 

A one-day meeting of the Judicial Committee Mediation Center, including Social Protection Volunteers (Human Right Defender), was conducted on 14 December 2025 in Bardia. The program was organized by the Rajapur Municipality Judicial Committee, with coordination from a representative of Caritas Nepal. 

During the meeting, Social Protection Volunteers discussed community-level issues and the processes used to address and resolve these issues. The Rajapur Municipality Judicial Facilitator shared updates on the total number of cases raised during FY 2082/2083 (8 cases), including cases resolved (6), pending cases (2), and the reasons behind the unresolved cases. 

The meeting was conducted under the chairpersonship of the Rajapur Municipality Judicial Committee. A total of 28 participants attended, including 20 males and 8 females. Participants included 3 Judicial Committee Members, 1 Caritas Nepal representative, 1 Rajapur Municipality staff member, and 23 Social Protection Volunteers from 10 wards of Rajapur Municipality. 

School-Level Orientation and Workshops on Child Development and Parental Engagement 

As part of ongoing child-focused initiatives, wall magazine publication orientation sessions were conducted in Singadevi School, Jhapa, with active participation from the Child Club. Similar sessions were also held in Kanchanpur and Surkhet, promoting student engagement, creativity, and awareness on school and community issues. A total of around 200 children participated in these sessions. 

In addition, a workshop on Parental Education was organized at Singadevi School, Jhapa, with participation from the School Management Committee (SMC), parents, and PTA members. More than 35 people attended the workshop, which aimed to strengthen parental involvement in children’s education, enhance understanding of child rights, and promote collaborative efforts for student development. 

NLRP-II Half-Yearly Network Meeting Conducted in NCRC,Nawalpur 

The NLRP-II Half-Yearly Network Meeting was held as a three-day review, reflection, and planning workshop from 17th to 19th December,2025 at NCRC, Gadaikot, Nawalpur, with the participation of 43 Caritas Nepal staff from 10 districts. 

The workshop focused on MEAL data review, target versus achievement analysis, and group discussions on challenges, best practices, lessons learned, and the way forward. Participants also engaged in sector-wise technical reviews covering Agriculture/IPM, Enterprise, and Social sectors, as well as discussions on Farmer Facilitators, disability inclusion, financial updates, audit findings, and an anti-fraud refresher. 

The event concluded with action-oriented planning, sharing of revised action plans, and discussions on the NLRP-II Mid-Term Evaluation, strengthening coordination, learning, and collective commitment to inclusive and resilient livelihoods across the program.
